山なみの道、トレイルを歩く。自然にふれるひとコマ。

What do you like about Silicon Valley? シリコンバレーの何が気に入っているの？
The fact that there are so many great trails to walk! すばらしいトレイルがたくさんあること。

So you like nature. 自然がすきなんだね。
It’s a great experience. You touch wildlife. すばらしい体験だよ。自然のいのちにふれるって。

The trees bud. The wildflowers bloom. つぼみが芽吹き、野の花が咲く。
Are there birds or animals? 鳥や動物はいる？

So many of them, like squirrels and deer. たくさんいるよ。リスとかシカとか。
I don’t know much about the wildflowers. 野草のことは、よくわからないなぁ。

Neither do I, but you can still enjoy them. ぼくもよく知らないよ。でも、十分、楽しめるよ。
Right. You don’t need to be knowledgeable. そうだね。もの知りである必要はないよね。

What else do you find interesting? 他に、どんなことがおもしろい？

Words? What kind of words? ことば？どんな？
For example, wood, ridge, hill, and creek. 例えば、森、尾根、丘、小川といったことば。

What can you do on a trail? トレイルではどんなことができるの？
You can hike, trek, bike, and explore. ハイキング、トレッキング、サイクリング、それに探検。

Do people bike up the steep slopes? 急な坂道を自転車で登る人いるの？
Some do. That’s hard work. Not for me. いるよ。たいへんだよね。ぼくにはできないけど。

Get to the top of the hill. You’ll see the world. 頂上に登ってごらん。世界が見えるよ。
Maybe not on a cloudy, foggy, misty, or chilly day. 曇りの日、霧やもやの日、寒い日は別かも。

The essence lies in the whole experience. いちばん肝心なことは、体験全部にあるんだね。
It’s a small adventure. 小さな探検だよ。
