Let’s talk about verbs that refer to what our eyes can do. 目を使う動作のことばを話そう。
We’ll act by creating simple phrases with them. シンプルなフレーズをつくって演じてみよう。
What are you looking at? 何を見てるの？
I’m watching you. 君のことを見ている。
To watch is to look at something for a while. watchは、しばらく何かを見ていることだね。
You stare at something for a longer time. stareは、もっと長く見ていること。
Exactly. Another example is to discover. そのとおり。他の例だと、discover。
What does discover mean? どういう意味？
It’s to find out something you didn’t know. 知らなかったことを見つけることだよ。
Finding out something new is a discovery. 何かあたらしいものを見つけることが発見。
We are told not to ignore the traffic signs. 交通標識を無視するな、ってよく言われるよね。
Missing them can cause accidents. 見のがすと、事故になる可能性がある。
But there are times when you don’t notice things. でも、目に入らない時ってあるよね。
Yeah, mostly when you are in a hurry. うん。たいてい、急いでいる時だね。
To check is to find out if something is correct or true. checkは、正しいか、本物か、を調べること。
To compare is to check if two things are similar or different. compareは、二つが似ているかどうか調べること。
To perceive is to notice something. perceiveとは、何かに気がつくこと。
To read is an act of working with the eyes. readは、目を使ってする行為。
To visualize is to make something visible. visualizeとは、ものごとを見えるようにすること。
Visualizations are helpful. 視覚化すると、理解しやすくなる。
